Care after the visit
What happens after the visit?
If this sounds familiar
The first visit is over. A question comes up later. Who can answer it, and would another fee apply?
Agree how to reach the person treating you
Ask how to send a question, who reads it and when to expect a reply. Ask what happens if the person who usually treats you is away.
Under medical-board guidance adopted during May 2026, the health professional must allow patients to raise follow-up questions of their own.
The group formed by state medical boards, called the Federation of State Medical Boards, issued this guidance. Each state’s own rules remain the enforceable ones.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against services where a licensed doctor is unavailable for questions once the medicine has arrived.
Ask for the contact route in the care plan. Do this while comparing services, before there is a question you need answered quickly.
Find out what the ongoing fee buys
Online weight-care prices checked September 26, 2026 included monthly membership fees and fees for single visits.
Ask whether a later visit is included and whether messages, result reviews and prescription renewals have extra charges.
- What care is included while the membership runs?
- When is the next review, and what would it cost?
- What would I pay if the visit ends without a prescription?
- What steps cancel my membership, and at what point do the bills end?
Keep the written terms. Compare the ongoing charge with what you expect to use, as well as the opening price.
Plan for care that needs a room
Under medical-board guidance, the doctor must refer you to care in person whenever a later exam or test requires it.
Ask where you would go and who helps arrange it. Ask whether a local doctor can receive the visit notes and test results.
The useful answer names the next step, the person responsible and how to reach them.
